Digging In The Dirt

Every day we see and experience things both good and bad. But what happens when the things we see and experience break our spirit and eat into the deepest corners of our soul? Trauma, whether big or small – in childhood or as an adult – changes us and the way we experience ourselves, others, and our world. When we suffer trauma, the natural human instinct is to protect ourselves. Often we do this by finding ways to cut ourselves off through denial that we’ve been hurt, dissociation from the painful event (or people involved), or repression of the memory of the trauma. While traumatic incidents undoubtedly affect us; what shapes our future, for better or worse, depends on how we process trauma and the stories we tell ourselves. We can all grow and learn from experiences, especially the painful ones. Which is why we think digging in the dirt to heal the places we’ve been hurt, is a conversation worth starting.
